youth work at the kitchen
youth caff
Every Wednesday during term time we run a Youth Caff, where a team of young people run their own community caff themselves with the support of some of our volunteers, that is solely open to other young people. This year they held their first ever supper club for their friends and families. The Youth Caff provides local young people with a safe, relaxed space to be, that isn’t the streets or home- a rarity in London!
School holiday programmes
During the school holidays, we run cooking sessions with a group of local young people aged, preparing 100 meals for Reaching Higher’s youth provision as well as our regular caff lunches. Our youth crew learn about food waste, community food growing and the redistribution of food that would otherwise go to waste alongside cooking sessions.
our young volunteers
We work with young people with special educational needs, those who are navigating the criminal justice system, and our general youth population every week through our work placements programme. Building strong, non-judgemental relationships centred around cooking is powerful to support these young people on their journey at a crucial time in their lives.
Both our school holiday programmes and youth caff are run in partnership with Reaching Higher. Our SEN placements are run in partnership with Croydon Youth Justice Service, and our SEN placements with Beckmead College.
