Change the world one meal at a time

At South Norwood Community Kitchen, we take food that would otherwise go to waste and we transform it into fine-dining deliciousness for everyone. Whether it’s through our pay-what -you-can café, Saturday Kitchen, youth workshops or one-to-one support, we use the power of food to bring our community together and make it stronger in order to build action.

SNCK would be nothing without our incredible community of volunteers. Every day, local people help us to bring a better life to over 100 people in Croydon. If you’d like to join the family, have a read about the different ways you can help out and how to sign up:

SNCK community caff:

We run a pay-what-you-can caff from Socco Cheta on Portland rd 4 days per week, from Tuesday-Friday (10am-3pm). Our incredible team of caff volunteers run the space- from coffee and cakes to healthy lunches for around 30 guests, using surplass food that would otherwise go to waste. Come and help make the magic happen and volunteer at the caff, either as chef, barista or general helper! to sign up, please email ashleigh@southnorwoodcommunitykitchen.co.uk or call or message her on 07842418228

Saturday Kitchen crew:

Every Saturday we cook a three course meal for around 100 local people, using surplus food that would otherwise go to waste. A team of volunteers cook up the meals in our café space on our busy community Saturdays. If you like cooking and enjoy soaking up good vibes then sign up for a shift here (9:30am-2:30pm):

volunteering with SNCK FAQS:

Q: I’m under 16, can I still volunteer?

A: We have a limited number of spots for under 16s to volunteer with us, and you’ll need to have a parent/guardian with you at all times. If you’d like to see whether we have any under 16 slots, please email hello@southnorwoodcommunitykitchen.co.uk

Q: I’d like to volunteer during the week. Who do I contact?

A: please email ashleigh@southnorwoodcommunitykitchen.co.uk

Q: I’d like to volunteer on the weekend. Who do I contact?

Please sign up on our sign up link here.

Q: I’d like to volunteer on a Saturday but there are no shifts available! Can I still help out?

A: As lots of people are interested in volunteering with us on a Saturday, unfortunately our shifts fill up fast so make sure you plan ahead and get your shifts in early! We are open to everyone so if you can’t volunteer but want to be part of the action then why not come down, have lunch and get chatting to some neighbours you never knew you had?

Q: I’d like to volunteer but can’t do the full hours, can I still help out?

A: All new volunteers need to be able to help out for the full shift if it’s their first time (unless there is a health-related reason you’re not able to). After this we can be more flexible and you can discuss with the kitchen or FOH lead in charge on the day.

Q: Why haven’t I heard back regarding my query?

A: we are a very small team and often have emergencies to prioritise given the nature of the work we do, so please be patient if it takes us a while to get back to you.
